Clinical Survey of Pediatric Surgical Diseases



Abstract
A clinical review was made on 516 cases of pediatric surgical diseases except neonate which were operated upon in Pusan Medical Center from January 1985 to October 1993.
@ES The results were follows:
@EN 1) The incidence of pediatric operation was 9l1% of total operations at the Department of general surgery (516/5,654).
2) The male to female ratio was 1.7:1.
3) The most prevalent age group was the adolescent (41.9).
4) Common pediatric surgical diseases were acute appendicitis (36.6%) and inguinal hernia (32.0%).
5) In male, inguinal hernia was the most common disease in contrast to acute appendicitis in female.
6) Inguinal hernia was the most common in infancy and early childhood, and acute appendicitis in late childhood and adolescent.
7) Postoperative complication occurred in 9 cases (11.4%) and the wound infection was the most common one (42.4%).
8) Motality rate was 0.2% (1 case0 and the cause of daeth was sepsis.
